Sugar Cookies Recipe

Sugar cookies are a regular treat for the kids. They are usually found on party cookie trays and at cookie exchanges during the holiday season.

From the Kitchen of: Debbie M., Rochester, NY.

Yield: 5-6 dozen

Sugar Cookie Ingredients:

• 1 cup butter or margarine, softened

• 1/2 cup granulated sugar

• 1 egg

• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

• 2 1/4 cups flour

• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

• 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

• decorating sugar

How to make Sugar Cookies:

1. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.

2. Cream butter, powdered sugar and granulated sugar.

3. Beat in egg and vanilla.

4. Slowly mix in flour cream of tartar ad baking soda.

5. Mix together until dough forms a ball.

6. Make 1 inch dough balls and place two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.

7. Dip a clean glass into small bowl of sugar and flatten cookies to about 1 /12 inches diameter.

8. Decorate with colored decorating sugar.

9. Bake for 7-9 minutes until edges are lightly browned.
