Cliché Day

When is Cliché Day? This holiday is always observed on November 3

Today is Cliché Day, a November 3 holiday. So, what are we supposed to do with this day? There is no information or documentation on this day. The creator of Cliché Day is not known. As a result, we do not know whether to celebrate clichés and use them often, or whether this is a day to refrain from their use. The most likely intent is to celebrate tired, old, worn-out clichés. It certainly is much more fun to celebrate things, than to abstain from them. So, let’s use this special day to celebrate clichés!!

A cliché is a phrase that is used repeatedly, over and over again. They are often spoken to the point that people are tired of hearing them. In this sense, just about any phrase or saying can become a cliché over time, especially if its use becomes irritating and bothersome.

Common Cliché's

Examples of clichés are seemingly endless. Here are a few, of which you’re likely familiar:

  • My personal favorite: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Better safe than sorry.
  • Better late than never.
  • Haste makes waste.
  • Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  • Cat got your tongue!?
  • You get what you pay for.
  • In the nick of time.
  • Don’t get your panties in a bunch.
  • My how time flies.
  • As old as the hills.
  • Don’t cry over spilt milk.
  • That’s the way the cookie crumbles.

How to Celebrate Cliché Day

Now that you know what a cliché is, it’s time to have some fun today. Try to insert clichés into every conversation and whenever you speak. Use multiple clichés in the same sentence if possible. If someone seems to catch on, that’s great! Clue them in to this special day and encourage them to participate in Cliché Day. After all, “nothing ventured, nothing gained!”

Today's Quote

“If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that’s his problem. Love and peace are eternal.” – – John Lennon

History and Origin of Cliché Day

This special day seems to have been created around 2015, possibly a year or two earlier. We found no factual information about the roots of this day. Nor did not find the originator of this special day, or why it was created.

Some internet websites refer to this as a “National” Cliché Day. We found absolutely no documentation confirming this as a true “National” day. There have been no congressional records or presidential proclamation creating this day as a national day.
