How to Make Christmas Fudge Cake Recipe

The holidays were very important in our family. Grandma knew how to make them extra special, with all sorts of baked goodies, like this Christmas Fudge Cake.

Christmas Fudge Cake Ingredients

1 egg

4 squares unsweetened chocolate

1 cup sugar

3/4 cup milk

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

4 eggs

3 cups flour

1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt.

1 cup milk

How to Make Christmas Fudge Cake Directions

  1. Beat egg.

  2. In a saucepan, combine egg, unsweetened chocolate squares,1 cup sugar, and milk.

  3. Heat slowly, stirring frequently, until the chocolate melts and the mixture thickens.

  4. Remove from heat, set aside, allowing to cool to room temperature.

  5. In a large bowl, mix 1/4 cup butter and 1/2 cup shortening.

  6. Add 1 1/2 cups sugar and cream together.

  7. Add vanilla and eggs, beating and mixing well.

  8. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking soda, and salt.

  9. Alternately add in flour mixture and milk, beating until smooth.

  10. Blend in chocolate mixture.

  11. Grease 3- 9 inch round cake pans.

  12. Pour batter into cake pans.

  13. Bake in a preheated oven at 350° F for 25 – 30 minutes.

  14. Test for doneness with a toothpick.

  15. Remove from oven and place on wire racks to cool.

Frosting and Decorating:

  1. Add tinted mint-flavored extract to your favorite frosting.
  2. After the cakes have cooled, frost them, as you stack them on top of each other.
  3. Melt 2-3 squares of unsweetened chocolate with 2 teaspoons of butter.
  4. Cool slightly, then dribble chocolate over the frosting.
  5. Decorate the top with green and red Christmas candies.
