History and Origin of National Trivia Day

Robert L. Birch, Grand Pun Scorpion of the Puns Corps created this day to raise our awareness of the significance of trivia in the development of human curiosity, science, and fun.

During our original research in the early 2000s, this was called Trivia Day. In recent years, a few internet sites have referred to this day as National Trivia Day. We did not find any documentation confirming this to be a “National” day. Since we found no congressional records or presidential proclamation, this is not a tur “National” day.

Definition of “National” DaysAnd, why it is important to identify the distinction. Why the distinction? Because we believe it’s pretty important and special when a person or organization has gone through the proper steps to obtain Congressional or Presidential recognition for the holiday. 

This Day in History

In addition to National Trivia Day, here are additionally some things that happened on this day:

  • Columbia University is founded as Kings College in New York City. (1754)
  • Samuel Colt sells his first revolver pistol to the U.S. government. (1847)
  • Isaac Newton,  Astronomer, Physicist, Mathematician was born on this day in 1643.
