Umbrella Day

Umbrella Day. February 10 holiday

About Umbrella Day

When is Umbrella Day? This holiday is always celebrated on February 10

Umbrella Day is today, a February 10 holiday. This special day is in honor of one of the world’s most invaluable inventions. On a rainy day, we are sure glad that someone was smart enough to invent it. You can use it for protection from snow and sleet. It’s also increasingly popular to use umbrellas to shade ourselves from harmful UV radiation, and the heat of the sun. This is especially true due to Global warming.

Umbrellas come in all sorts of sizes, colors, shapes, and, designs. Businesses and organizations use them for advertising, and placing their company name or logo on them. The smallest umbrellas fit inside a purse or glove compartment. Huge golf umbrellas are popular sizes. And, don’t forget lawn and beach umbrellas. Ultimately, there’s an umbrella or two, made just for you.

How to Celebrate Umbrella Day

You can celebrate Umbrella Day in several ways. Here are some ideas:

First, make sure your umbrella is handy. And, make sure it is in good repair.

Second, use it. Walk around with it, rain or shine.

If you don’t have an umbrella, isn’t it time to get one?

Buy one as a gift for someone.

Share your umbrella with someone who doesn’t have one.

History and Origin of Umbrella Day

Despite two in-depth research studies, we did not identify the creator of this holiday. Nor, did we discover the reason it was created. The earliest reference we found was in 2005.

For decades, this holiday was titled “Umbrella Day”. Then, a few years ago, a few holiday internet websites incorrectly added the word “National” to the title. Certainly, this is not the title as established by the creator of this holiday.

There is no evidence to suggest that this is truly a “National” day, which requires an act of Congress. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation about this special day.
