About Lazy Day

When is Lazy Day? This holiday is always celebrated on August 10

Life and work are busy and demanding. Did you ever get the urge to just take the day off, or to kick back and do nothing? Well, that day has arrived as today is Lazy Day. On this August 10 holiday, being lackadaisical is in vogue. We don’t cut the lawn, weed the garden, or even do the dishes. On this holiday people appear so lethargic, that you wonder if they are comatose.

Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer! Lazy Day is your chance to goof off and do no work. And, it definitely comes at a good time. Hot, muggy weather makes it easy to kick back and be lazy for a day. If summer chores are not done by now, they can just wait one more day. It is best spent on a hammock, along with your favorite summer beverage.

Whoever said, “There’s no lazy days…just lazy people.” Well, we respectfully disagree. Today is proof positive. It is indeed a Lazy Day. And, we consider that a good thing.

How to Celebrate and Participate in Lazy Day

Here are some ideas on how to celebrate and participate in Lazy Day:

  • Sleep in.
  • Grab a book and your favorite summer cooler as you head to the hammock.
  • Go out to eat. Cooking and doing the dishes afterward is work.
  • Go fishing or play golf.
  • Lounge around by the pool or on the beach.
  • It’s perfectly okay to do things today as long as it’s not work.

“Ambition is a poor excuse for not having the sense enough to be lazy.” – – Milan Kundera

History and Origin of Lazy Day

Our research did not find the creator or the origin of this day. The creators probably had good intentions to document this special day. But, they probably found themselves caught up in the true spirit and meaning of this day.

Some internet websites call this a “National” day. There is no evidence to suggest that this is truly a “National” day, which requires an act of Congress. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation about this special day. Rumor has it the President was out playing golf, and the Congress was following the spirit of this holiday.
