When is National Honesty Day? This holiday is always celebrated on April 30
National Honesty Day, an April 30 holiday, encourages us to be honest and truthful today, and every day. Be forthright, too. Holding something back, for whatever reason, is not being totally truthful. We honestly believe you try your best to be honest all of the time.
Honesty is a great virtue. As the saying goes, “Honesty is the best policy”. If we want people to believe us when it’s important, then we need to be open and honest all of the time. We all know about the boy who cried wolf. When a wolf actually appeared, no one believed him. So, build a reputation of never lying, ever.
Honesty was instilled in the character of our nation even before its birth. As a child, George Washington who would become our first president. could never tell a lie. ( Learn more) And, President Abraham Lincoln was well known as “Honest Abe”.
Today’s Slogan: Honesty is the best policy.
Celebrate National Honesty Day in a completely open and honest way.
To be totally honest, there are few rules for this special day……just be honest and truthful.
How to Celebrate National Honesty Day
Honestly, this is an easy day to celebrate.
Be honest and truthful to others.
Expect no less from others.
And most of all, as Shakespeare said “To thine own self be true”.
Today's Quote
“Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” – – Thomas Jefferson
History and Origin of National Honesty Day
M. Hirsh Goldberg, former press secretary to a governor of Maryland and author of five books, created National Honesty Day in the early 1990s after spending four years researching and writing The Book of Lies (Morrow). This book has been translated into Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
Goldberg created this day because he felt that April, which begins with a big day of lying (April Fools Day), should end on a higher moral note. We agree.
This is referred to as a “National” day. However, we did not find any congressional records or presidential proclamations for this day.
In addition to National Honesty Day, here are some other things that happened on April 30:
George Washington is inaugurated as the first president of the United States. (1789)
Mr. Potato Head is marketed for the first time. (1952)
John Galecki, actor, played son Rusty in “Christmas Vacation” movie, Leonard on televison sit-com series “Big Bang Theory”, was born on this day in 1975.
