Weddings and Anniversaries

New Year Day

About Weddings and Anniversaries

So, your wedding or anniversary is almost here. But, you haven’t bought a gift yet. Worse still, you don’t know what to buy. At least, you have remembered. That’s the first step.  Weddings and anniversaries are pretty important stuff. After all, getting married is perhaps the most important step you have taken, or will take, in your life. It’s time to celebrate and cherish the union, a time to embrace that special life partner.

Marriages are for the long haul. And they do not last without working at making them last. The father of an old girlfriend (no, I didn’t marry her) once said “Marriage is like an investment, the more you put in, the greater the return.” Over the years, I’ve come to realize how true this sage advice is.

Did you Know? Cathedral Bells flower seed packets are by far the most popular flower as favors for bridal showers and weddings.

The Honeymoon

A good marriage normally begins with a fantastic honeymoon. It starts the marriage off on a positive and memorable note. It’s a time to unite and celebrate the union. The rush and stress of wedding planning are over the jitters of the special day have passed. Now it’s time to begin your life together. What better way than to vacation together at some memorable place?

In pagan times, people married in June, on or near the Summer Solstice. The event included a drink with honey, usually mead. The full moon this month is named the “Honey Moon”. Out of this came the term, Honeymoon.

Free Marriage Tip: Don’t ask your wife what time dinner will be, while she is mowing the lawn.

The Origin of Wedding Bouquets

Here is one version of the origin of the traditional wedding bouquet:

In the 1500s, most people got married in June. This was because they took their yearly bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June.

However, by June they were starting to smell so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. This became today’s custom of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
